NOW AND AT THE
HOUR OF OUR DEATH
for Catholics on
End-of-Life Issues

At some point every family must deal with issues involving end of life care for a loved one. As Catholics attempt to navigate the myriad medical, ethical, and religious questions that arise, all the while dealing with the grief of an impending death, it can become overwhelming.
In an effort to offer assistance, the New York State Catholic Conference has produced a website that tackles many of the common questions and concerns, offers  clarity and compassion, and serves as an education Resource for Catholics nationwide.

The Diocese of Rochester and the Gates Catholic Community is committed to the safety and well-being of our youth and vulnerable adults.  In ensuring this safety and well-being the diocese has created a mandatory workshop and background check for any adult having direct contact with our youth and vulnerable adults.  The two hour workshop, “Creating a Safe Environment” and subsequent confidential background check is provided at no charge to any adult wishing to assist directly with our youth and vulnerable adults. Please contact the Parish Office for further information.

HOW AND WHEN YOUR CMA GIFT IS USED

Your gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) is crucial. Donations fund the day-to-day operations of the Diocese of Rochester. Without your generosity, we could not continue to support our parishes and fulfill our mission. When your donation is received, it is utilized immediately for current operations. The CMA supports offices, personnel and ministries that provide assistance and resources to parishes, pastors, parish ministers and Pastoral and Finance Councils through such offices as Safe Environment, Information Technology, Evangelization & Catechesis, Pastoral Services, Finance, Building/Property Management, Stewardship and Communications, the Tribunal and Risk Management. In fact, the CMA funds nearly 60 percent of the current diocesan operating budget in seven key areas:

Serving the poor, the elderly and infirm through Catholic Charities

Providing diocesan-wide services to our parishes and institutions

Educating youth and young adults in the Catholic faith in our schools, parish religious education programs and on college campuses.

Funding the formation of seminarians, deacons, pastoral leaders and vocations
Supporting the ministries of Bishop Matano, the New York State Catholic Conference, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Vatican.

Funding operations & support services of the Pastoral Center, including maintenance and capital improvements

Supporting the fundraising efforts of the CMA campaign, such as the cost of mailings, gift and data processing and staffing.

A detailed allocations chart can be found at www.dor.org/cma.

All funds raised in the CMA are used for programs, services and ministries. No CMA contributions are used for the settlement of legal cases. The Diocese will accept gifts, separate from the CMA, to assist in funding settlements with victims. Contact the Office of Stewardship and Communications at 585-328-3210 for more information.
